Dear McNeal Family:
My name is Edward Rossotti and I was a classmate of Dan's at Georgetown. I want
to extend my condolences to the entire McNeal family. Dan was truly an exceptional
human being. I don't think I've ever met someone who was so selfless and generous.
Of all the great things that Dan did for so many people, I am not sure why the
following story keeps coming to my mind, but it does, so I would like to share
it with you.
Early one morning, as we were all settling in for an accounting class in Healy
Hall, Dan overhead a classmate mention that she had not had the time to get a
cup of coffee before class started. So Dan popped out of his chair without a moment's
thought and ran to get her a cup of coffee. The look on her face when Dan came
back into the room with the coffee is a look that Dan brought to the faces of
so many around him. It was a look of awe, of disbelief that another human being
could be so thoughtful and kind and generous and want nothing in return.
This seems like such a silly story considering the many other important things
Dan accomplished, but at the same time this story shows that Dan was always willing
to help anyone, at any time, for any reason. Period.
It is incomprehensible to me why God would allow someone like Dan to be taken
off this earth.
Your entire family will be in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all.
Sincerely,
Edward Rossotti
